Charlemagne’s nephew Roland (look up the song of Roland)
I guess Charlemagne himself for that matter.
Elizabeth Bathory (Hungarian countess who supposedly drank the blood of the young maidens in her kingdom)
Catherine the great (Catherine II of Russia)
Ok, I’m not sure I understand the question. Are you saying Vlad Tepes, aka Vlad the Impaler, aka Vlad Dracula, aka Prince Dracula, was nothing but a myth or are you saying that there are myths associated with him that people know more than they konow of him? And thus the question is myths associated with real people that may be better known than the people themselves? I have to ask because Dracula (which means Son of the Dragon, his farther was Vlad Dracul, the Dragon, and both were members of the Order of the Dragon) was a real man, the Prince of Wallachia. His most common nickname came from his practice of impailing his opponents and enemies. But the myths of him being a vampire come from Bram Stoker’s use of the name Dracula for his antagonistic title character in “Dracula.”
Er,
the man in the iron mask?
“The Scarecrow of romney marsh”
Robin Hood
King Arthur
Rasputin
St Nicolas
any one of the couple of thousand “saints”, “prophets”, Messiahs, etc. (I am not saying that any one of these in particular were made up, just that stories were made up about them that often weren’t true. For instance, the Moslems have a legend that said that Jesus turned all of the Jews into Bats when they wouldn’t convert to the Moslem religion.. etc, etc)
